This is the one who came by water and blood -- Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

1 John 5:6

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?

Have you ever used those words with your children, or with other adults? Teachers at times may even use those words when confronting a student about their actions that might have been hurtful to themselves or someone else. At Parent-Teacher Conferences, which have just taken place, teachers and parents may have had this subject come up when trying to help a child make better decisions.

Parents and teachers have the opportunity to help teach their children the proper way of handling situations from a Christian prospective. One of the areas that we help children is in their handling of relationships. How do they treat their best friend? How do they treat their classmates? How do they treat their family members?

In todays society we are learning that children will text others things they would not say in person. Children will write on Facebook things that they would not say in person. Somehow children dont make the connection that what is put out in the public domain through texting, Facebook, twittering, and such are out there for all to see. Once it is in writing it is hard to deny or take back. Things that are said now or displayed could damage their reputation and opportunities for a job later in life.

I dont think that children only have that problem. Many adults dont seem to understand this as well. They dont realize that businesses have HR (Human Resource) Departments that look up anything and everything that has been said about or by an individual in the public domain. What is in print can come back to hurt you many years after the fact. Things that were said or done earlier cannot be explained away. Thats why parents and teachers need to remind their children as well as model for their children what is and what is not proper.

Where does all of this fit in within our Christian teaching and practice? Im convinced that adults and children have set aside the 5th, 6th, & 8th commandment in the things they communicate, which can be hurtful to themselves or in relationships with others. Thank God that He is a forgiving God who puts away our sin through the blood of Jesus Christ shed for you and me. Thank God that He does not hold our daily sins against us, but we were reconciled to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. As our relationship with God is strong, our relationship with others can also be right. Let our actions and our words be one of building up relationships rather than tearing down relationships as we model this for our children and others.

YEARBOOK GROUP PICTURES TOMORROW, FRIDAY, FEB. 3RD

As we prepare for this school years yearbook publishing we include pictures of our various sports groups and group activities. Tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 3rd we will be taking pictures of the basketball teams and cheerleading squad. Students can choose to have individual pictures and a group picture taken by the photographer who took our individual pictures in the Fall. Special order sheets were sent home earlier in the week. We will also be taking volleyball pictures and pictures of the cross country team. Cross country team members should bring their cross country shirt to wear and the 7/8 girls volleyball division champs should bring their pink shirt. Band members are to have their instruments here and we have asked those in Short Shots should wear their shirts for a group picture.

5-8 BOWLING ON FRIDAY

Each quarter we reward those students in grade 5-8 who handed in their home work on time and were a positive student in the area of behavior in the classroom. Those who did not receive a detention for the 2nd quarter will be going bowling on Friday afternoon. Thank you to the parents who are helping to transport the students to and from the bowling alley. The students will leave for bowling at 12:30 p.m. and return by the end of the school day.

NO SCHOOL THIS COMING MONDAY, FEB. 6TH

BOOK CLUB

Ladies our next book club is Monday, February 13th at 6:30 p.m. We will meet in the foyer at the Grant Street building. Our book selection is The Judgement, not The Mercy as someone so kindly informed me. We will read The Mercy for the March book club. If you would like to come to book club, we would love to have you! If you are coming to the February book club, please read The Thorn (last months selection) and The Judgement. These are really great books and are a pretty easy read. The books can be found at the library or can be purchased at the Family Christian bookstore on 76th Street. If you have any questions, please call or email me at 546-4652 or 4ricards@att.net. Thanks!
